FACES
ABIGAIL FORD

Artist statement

I did a shoot with a very close creative collaborator of mine, Esther Kehinde Ajayi (EKAS), who is a West-London based Sound Artist. Mine (as an artist of imagery) and Esther’s (as an artist of sound) relationship is highly symbiotic as we exchange artistic endeavours for the sake of our intertwining visual universes. I create all of the imagery to visualise Esther’s sound art, while Esther provides me with the sensory experience that elevates my photographs, videos, and other projects.
On this occasion, Esther was working on a piece of sound art titled “Faces”. The PIECE surrounds the concept of the violent rawness of human nature when it comes to the seeking, breaking and desiring embodied human connection and intimacy. This craving to see yourself reflected in the people you desire can lead us to the extremes of our human nature where violent projections, brutal vulnerabilities and tragic misunderstandings play out in the game of life and society.
Lyrics:
*Every-time I look at you I swear I see my own face*
*Every time you look at me I know you see you too*
*Our Cells are reaching for a hand to help us understand*
*What we should know and yes it shows*
We met in a Chiswick RHEHEARSAL ROOM where Esther’s goal was to practice performing the piece, and mine was to attempt to capture her natural energy coming through the song. Throughout the entirety of our creative collaboration, it’s my aim while shooting to capture Esther’s spirit, energy, and essence without distorting it but showing very honest imagery of her natural instincts when it comes to performance. In this instance, Esther’s movement was very raw - and there was an intense energy coming from deep within her that I felt drawn to photograph.
THE PIECCE IS UNRELEASED AT THIS TIME.
