El perro de México by Captain John (Adgehovah DG)
VIOLENCE |
Documented in Mexico City in collaboration with Captain John and Ulises Gorka, the proposal for ‘Violence’ portrays a part of the BDSM everyday life of Adgehovah DG,
a Mexican born conceptual artist and performer who lives part of his daily life as a puppie and identifies himself as an homosexual persona – psychiatric patient.
This experience captures his intimacy at his home, a huge place caught in time where all the walls are black and holds a mysterious aura.
He lives with her aunt, a person over 80 years old and full accustomed to all creative expressions made by the artist, even the most disruptive.
His home contains many disturbing objects, like the wheelchair that appears in some photographs, which was initially belonged by his mother and eventually used by his grandmother before she passed away.
He uses it frequently as a regular chair and his aunt doesn’t see any problem with that. He does not place any greater burden or superstitious attribution on some objects that hold similar stories,
however impressive they may be. That’s because that have been part of their life, and he guards them very carefully and with a lot of respect.
In contrast, is also close and very passionate to many vernacular traditions, like the Mexican national sport and mariachi music.
Even when he does not talk about strong political issues, he always raises narratives that seek to break social norms, like combining traditional indumentary as an emblem of his self view on traditional fetichism.
This project is also being an important retrospective that shows all his personal changes mainly through the body and along with the transformations in space,
Captain John captures a crucial moment in Adgehovah’s life through a very natural body-movement study, bringing the possibility to open the door to reflect on an unconventional dynamic that displays a concept of an underground family.

CAPTAIN JOHN |
Captain John is a photographer that bounces between various identities using He / They camera lens to depict the power and beauty of transgressing gender norms and heteronormativity.
Three years ago I founded Captain John's Studio in Berlin, a safe, inclusive, creative and sustainable photo studio.
I specialize in portraits and have developed a photographic style that I call docufashion:
I create photo shoots with people who have something very special to me, who I casually meet through friends or on the streets of Berlin.
The result are authentic images that show spontaneity and natural talent.
Adgehovah DG |
Conceptual Artist and Performer active since 2019, who explores different disciplines, ranging from public interventions, photography and video, to painting and object-art.
Their work discuss, in an intersectional way, issues of sexual dissidence, mental health, human rights, public security and LGBTIQ+ historical memory.
His approach is political and minimalist, also clinical and esoteric, mostly shaped by a subversive critique of power in state, religion and class.
He imagines dystopian scenarios and complex narratives linked to philosophical dilemmas about the mechanics that will lead the social movements of the future,
talking about self-destruction and the decay of being.
Comparing the effects and remnants of the 20th century on global current affairs, raising questions that are strictly warmongering.
Devoting his work to the study of our nearest future, within the framework of 20-30 Agenda.
He has presented two solo shows and participated in several collective projects, actively collaborating with other artists through his documentary platform called ‘CINÉMA BESTIALE’.
